GL1800 High-Beam Garage Door Control

IMPORTANT INFORMATION UPDATE!  Please read before ordering!

There have been a few customers with the OEM Hondaline foglights who have complained that their opener didn't work when plugged into the harness as described in the instructions. The Honda harness includes a small pigtail that plugs into the bikes' harness and then plugs into the switch assembly. The plug at the bikes' harness does have all of the required connectors in place for the opener module to work properly. The "pigtail" plug does not have all wires necessary and the module will not work if plugged into this connector. Please remove this pigtail at the bike's harness connector and plug the timer module into this point.

The installation instructions are located here for information on how to access this plug.

I'll admit it: I don't like having to take my hands off the handlebars at low speed for anything, especially to reach for my garage door opener remote control while negotiating the turn into our driveway and its associated curb bump.

I thought I would wire a remote pushbutton to the opener like I did for my cars, but I'd still have to take my hands off the bars while negotiating the driveway or the curb bump.

I saw an ad for a high-beam interlock controller in a HD catalog which would take a signal from the high-beam light switch and energize a new transmitter. A new receiver mounted in your garage would effectively "push the button" in the garage to work your garage door opener.  The transmitter portion of this assembly was $125 and each new receiver was another $30. As an electronics hobbyist, I knew there had to be a way to do this much cheaper, and use my existing remote control.

The result here is an easy-to-install module that will energize your garage door opener momentarily when you activate your high beam switch.  The design of the module will keep the unit from continuously pulsing the opener when you're riding with your high beams on.

If you don't want to hassle with sending me a remote to modify, I can provide a remote pre-wired to a timer assembly and ready to install.  I'll need to know the brand and model of your opener to be able to provide the correct remote for your application.

Just let me know what I can do to help.
