J&A Accessories
A home-based business,
focused on providing
the best service possible.
The
Garmin StreetPilot 2610 was the
predominantly-installed GPS for motorcycle
applications. The
2610 uses a CF memory card to store the
detailed maps and a 2GB card (available separately)
will hold all of the maps for North America.
Note:
The dash profile on the '06 version
of the GL1800 is much different that the earlier
model years. The existing dash mount will not fit
this year without modifications to the shape of the
dash mount and its' support legs on the bottom.
A new design is available now to support this
model, you can find
that model here.
The mount attaches to the front edge of the dash near the
metal support brackets that support the dash itself for the
maximum amount of rigidity available.
A large amount of development time was expended,
trying to find a mounting method that didn't require
drilling any holes in the bike. None of the
solutions that I came up with were sturdy enough.
Three small holes are drilled from the top of the
dash and rubber-isolating flange nuts are inserted to hold the mount in place
and provide further vibration isolation.
For those that are worried about the appearance of the dash
after drilling the mounting holes, here is a picture showing
the holes with the plugs that are included in the
installation kit installed. With the windshield
installed, they are even less visible. (Click on the
image to see a larger version of the picture.)
The front side of the mount fits securely over the lip of
the dash and the metal edges are coated with rubber trim to
prevent any scratching or plastic damage.
The angle of the face of the GPS is adjustable to match the
riders' height by loosening the small attachment screws at
the side of the mount (shown on the picture above) and
gently bending the front face of the mount to the
appropriate position and then re-tightening the screws. The
mounts have been tested with riders ranging in height from
6'-4" to 5'-4". Depending on the GPS, the mounting angle and
the position of the sun, you may still have issues with
visibility and you might want to consider a sun visor if
this becomes a problem for you.
The mounting system
comes complete with everything you need to install
the GPS onto the dash: the dash mount plate,
Garmin's M/C cradle pre-installed on the mount, the
bushing nuts & SS screws for attaching it to the
dash, Garmin's security screwdriver for securing the
GPS into the mount and the three plastic plugs for
filling the mounting holes in the dash if it was
ever removed.
The base kit does not
come with any wiring harnesses or audio accessories,
but they can be ordered below.
Any GPS mounted on
the dash will block an appreciable amount of air
through a windshield vent. If you just hold the GPS
in position in the center of the dash, you'll see
that the effectiveness of the vent for providing
airflow to the rider will be severely reduced. The
GPS will also fit on those bikes fitted with most
aftermarket windshields, including the Tulsa models.
You might need to slightly adjust the mounting
height of the shield to allow the vent flap to clear
the back of the GPS.
Important note for StreePilot users:
The locking screw on the tab on the top of the cradle
must be
secured when using this cradle! The screw itself keeps the mount from
being able to fully engage the locking tab into the back of the GPS. If
you try to use this cradle without securing the screw, it
will fall out of the
cradle!

26-27
series device cable, two power cables and a GL1800 I/C Cable to provide permanent

AuxSwitchADSet System
This system allows you
to share the 1800's AUX input with two stereo music
devices and a mono audio alert devices (such as a
radar detector or audio-only GPS). The unit operates in a
prioritized format: the secondary music input
(typically a satellite radio) is routed
to the AUX input. If the unit senses music on the
primary music input, it switches to it until it
detects silence. The
alert devices operate in a similar way and will
override the music on either of the music inputs.
Creation of a
complete kit will require selecting the base module
components and then choosing the appropriate device
cables to complete your selections - up to two music input
devices and an 'alert' device harness.
Add a
'KnobDriver'
Some of the aftermarket shields (like the
Tulsa) leave little room to accommodate the stock Garmin
security screwdriver used to secure the GPS in the mount.
I've created a replacement "Security" knob that reduces the
vertical height required from 1 3/4" to about 3/4".
Get a spare to keep in your RH pocket, or trunk, in case you
lose the Garmin unit!

Add a 'Gamage' Plate
This plate was created at the suggestion of one of
our earlier customers, Dick Gamage. When he
installed his SP3 on the dash mount, he found the
GPS blocked the top portion of his gauges and needed
it just a little bit higher. This plate can be
attached between the cradle and the mount attachment
points to give about 1" of adjustment either up or
down.
Includes low-profile SS mounting hardware.
$18.00
RAM Mounting Hardware
RAM mounting kit for installing the GPS on the
handlebars using a single-ball mount.
This kit provides the RAM cradle
for the 26/27-series GPS, a single-ball handlebar
mount, medium-length arm and a diamond base to
attach to the back of the cradle.
$35.00
Add the second ball to the
single-ball mount above.
This mounts into a
hex-shaped opening on the front of the mount. The
hex shape keeps the ball from rotating in use.
